  • As reviewed by me in May 1994:Summary: Dark, dark, dark, evil, brooding, threatening, exploding, dark, mean, evil, dark, dark, dark. Gothic in the traditional sense, orchestral and ethereal, intense, and dark, oh so very dark.I was just going to say that the total time of the disc is 57:43, but I decided to list the track titles since they are going to be more descriptive than my review! The masters of the macabre soundtrack are back with their own record label and a new album. It sounds like they watched Bram Stoker's Dracula (Coppola version) and The Hunger in a dark room every day for a month and then decided to do a Gothic album. Holy cow, this is something to be absorbed whole; interruptions would cause psychic trauma for sure. Like their debut on Extreme last year, this is a dark soundtrack for a movie you make as you listen to it. A mixture of dark orchestral and eerie ambient industrial, The Witch Hammer is intense. I love it; your mileage may vary. I describe it to friends as the entire Dracula (Coppola version) experience rolled up into an hour of music.
